We aren't having printing problems, just slowness. Sometimes between classes students are trying to print materials for their next class in a hurry and come to the ref desk to say the printers aren't working. I have found that many are trying to print PowerPoint slides, 6 on each side of double-sided paper for a total of 12 slides in one print job. Because it is graphics and not just text the printers can take a long time to complete the job. I noticed earlier this week that the slides were shaded as well, which added to the job.
So, I suggest that we ask what they are trying to print before putting in a call to the HelpDesk. If there is a problem with a paper jam or toner, flip over the sign attached to the print release station so students will use another printer. Then call the HelpDesk at 5-HELP (5-4357)to report the problem.
